Processing payroll for temporary workers across multiple agencies presented unique challenges. Each agency had different pay rates, shift patterns, and client billing arrangements. The client needed a solution that could process thousands of payroll entries weekly while maintaining accuracy and compliance with constantly evolving UK employment legislation including IR35 regulations, national minimum wage calculations, and pension contribution thresholds.

We developed Hirepay as a comprehensive payroll and HR management platform with multi-tenant architecture. The system features an intelligent payroll engine that handles complex calculations including variable pay rates, overtime, holiday accrual (supporting both percentage and accrual methods), statutory sick pay, and pension contributions under auto-enrolment rules. We built automated RTI (Real Time Information) submission to HMRC, reducing compliance burden significantly. The platform includes comprehensive HR features: employee onboarding workflows, document management, absence tracking, and performance review tools. A powerful reporting suite provides insights into labour costs, margin analysis, and workforce trends. We implemented bank-grade security with encryption at rest and in transit, detailed audit logging, and role-based permissions.
